Using Stuff

I've been getting good use out of my heart rate (HR) monitor birthday present lately. I like to wear it and monitor my HR during my kickboxing class at 24 Hour Fitness. It's just a cardio kickboxing class, so no pads or gloves or actually hitting anything; it is, however, very fun and challenging for me. I love that I can track where my HR is, and having that information at hand (hahaha! "at hand", get it?...cuz I can see my HR on my watch?...yikes...weak sauce, I know) has been really useful in balancing getting a good workout and not toppling over and passing out because I'm trying so hard :)

I am contemplating taking a more intense kickboxing class (www.ilovekickboxingpearlandtx.com) on the recommendation of my friend Becky. Kicking a pad and using gloves to smash stuff could be really fun! What do you think?

I Did It!

For those of you who don't know, one of my many quirks is that fruit that must be peeled in order to be consumed is my Arch Nemesis (rest easy bananas, you don't count here! Mama still loves you!)! I love fruit; fruit of ALL kinds. But I will be danged if I have to dig into a fruit that squirts it's essential oils in my eye, while peeling off the outer crust only to find an INNER crust-like-structure (pith?) that should be removed to some degree of acceptability, then peel each slice out of the whole whilst getting oodles of sticky, runny juice on my hands and desk and napkin... I mean, all for a slice of fruit? Pffffffff. Not for me!

This is part of the reason I love my husband so much. He loves peel-y fruit. I even think he likes to peel it; the whole process of it seems to be cathartic for him. For me, it's just too much effort. He will probably tell you that I lie (lay?) in wait, lurking, until he peels a delicious orange or grapefruit (but not tangerines!) into a small bowl, and then I swoop in and snatch a snickiddy-snack for my own self - having done none of the work. I meeeeeean...I wouldn't say I "lurk"...but otherwise, he would be telling the truth.

Today however, was one of my rare moments of triumph over the dreaded Peel Fruit. I have been promising myself for days that I would conquer these organic grapefruits Charlie didn't eat last weekend...and today I realized that dream. My hands are sticky. Grapefruit oils and splatter are everywhere. There are, however, grapefruit pieces in my belly (with pith), and only minimal damage to my clothing from spills. Take that fruit! So I declare Victory over this fruit for today...tomorrow, I'm back to eating grapes and berries.

My Birthday!

Charlie got me a heart rate monitor (and GPS watch) for my birthday. I put it on, measured my resting heart rate, then tried an experiment. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the image of my husband on my wedding day, waiting for me at the end of the aisle in the beautiful sun. My heart rate increased by 10 bpm :D

True story.
Go team!
